Home Study Visit

We had our first Home Study visit last night. Everything went well. Our social worker is a pleasure to work with. We meet with her again on Friday.

One step closer!

Congrats! I enjoyed our homestudy because I love having a reason to share my opinions on everything. ;)

Haha... yeah that's true I guess. If you like sharing your opinions and talking about your life and your family then the HS would be fun! I'm not exactly excited about all of the questions, but our SW has been so nice that it's made the whole experience enjoyable.

Hey Mark

I've been wanting to ask this question. I've seen different posts on here regarding Home Study. Excuse me for my ignorance, but I'm curious to know, what is a Home Study???

You can tell I've not gone through the procedure of adoption.

Bless Ya!

Hi Michelle,

A home study is required for each family that wants to adopt a child.

The home study is done by a social worker who meets with the family 3 or 4 different times. At least one of the meetings will be at your home. It's not really a white glove home inspection. They just want to make sure that your home is suitable for children. But the majority of the meetings are made up of interviews. They ask the husband and the wife a ton of questions.

The goal of the home study is to have them determine that your family should be recommended for adoption.

Naomi and I weren't too worried about it. It's not that we thought highly of ourselves. We just agree that a home study is a good idea. We're glad they require them.

Here's a link to the agency that's doing our home study - Nathanson Adoptive Services

We've had three meetings already and we have one more to go. So far the experience has been great. Our social worker is absolutely awesome. She truly cares about the work she does and we've learned a lot from her during this process.

Hope that helps explain the home study a little. If you want more information just click on the link to Nathanson.
