Christmas Tree

Naomi and I have been married for six years and this is the first time we've had a Christmas Tree. It's not like we don't like Christmas. We both love Christmas. But it just seems like we're always traveling for Christmas so we've never had a tree.

But this year is different...

Not only are we not traveling but Naomi's mom will be flying up to spend Christmas with us. So we decided to buy a tree. And it actually worked out great because when my parents found out that we were buying a tree they offered to pay for it as an early Christmas present for us. Cool, yeah?

So we went out and bought our first tree. It's an artificial tree. It looks awesome. It's 7 feet tall but it's what I'd call a medium sized tree. It's not one of those huge trees and yet it's not totally thin either.

We've been collecting ornaments over the past few years so we've got a few things on the tree. I have to admit that my favorites so far are my Jingle Bell Rock Ornaments from Restoration Hardware! They were a Christmas gift from my parents last year.

Has anyone else put their tree up yet? Is it a real tree or artificial?

I'll try to post some pictures of our tree when I get a chance.

Mark-
Real tree up at the Jindra house. 7 ft. Frasier Fir (only real in the Pacific Northwest). Still need to decorate it, though!

Hi Joette!

I guess I just grew up in a home that always had an artificial tree so that's what we bought. But I do love the smell of a real Christmas tree. I wonder what percentage of homes have real Vs artificial trees. Hmmm....

Hey Mark

First of all, I can't believe this is the first time you've put up a Christmas tree!!! Amazing!

We had real trees my Father would cut down at the back of our section when we were little. When we shifted, sometimes we'd have a real tree, but mainly went to artificial. The first Christmas of married life we went out and bought an artificial tree and all the decorations. Ten years later we still have the same tree and the same decorations with a few added extras that the boys make. It's really cool when the kids can make decorations too, it's a lot more special. Some special moments you and Naomi can enjoy with your little girl. I must admit, the smell of pine throughout the house is so wonderful to wake up to, I miss that with an artificial tree. The kids are wanting the tree up, so this weekend we'll put it up. We don't usually have it up this early, but we'll be away over Christmas so we won't get to enjoy it. The only thing with having summer at Christmas time, we have daylight savings too, so you can't really see the lights. The kids always want the lights on before going to bed, but it's so sunny!!

Hey loved the pictures. That's a huge tree. Ours is about 6 ft, I think. Although it doesn't seem much bigger than me, and I'm only around 5ft or so, lol.

I hope you both have a wonderful Christmas, and maybe next year you'll have another special somebody to share it with. It sort of rekindles the excitement when you have kids to share it with.

Anyway, enough said. Bless ya both!

Hi Michelle,

Yeah, it's kind of sad that we waited this long to get a tree. But at the time it sort of made sense since we were never around the house during Christmas. But now that we've got one, well it no longer makes any sense at all not to have a tree. And I sort of regret not getting one the first year we were married.

All of a sudden I find myself keeping an eye out for really cool ornaments. Haha... me, looking for ornaments. That's sort of funny!

Naomi found a solution for the Christmas Tree Smell (or the lack thereof). She went to Yankee Candle and bought a candle called Mistletoe - (A brisk scent with woodsy tones and hints of freshly cut evergreen - Refreshing)

It really smells like Christmas! I highly recommmend it!
