We ran into another snag. I ordered copies of our marriage license from Vitalcheck.com back on 10.31.03. One week later I noticed that they had charged my credit card but then credited it back. So I called them and asked them about it. They said there was no problem. In fact, they looked the order up and said it was ready to ship out and that I should expect to receive it in about a week.
Well, we didn't receive it so I called them this past Monday. The person I spoke with said they'd look into it and they'd call me back. They called me back Tuesday and said my order had been canceled many weeks ago. They informed me that since we are adopting from China, we have to get our marriage license directly from the Vital Statistics department.
If there's one thing that really disturbs me it's people, departments, agencies, businesses, etc... that can't understand the simple concept of communication. It's okay if they make a mistake on my order. It's okay if they can't fix it. It's even okay if they cost me a little time and money. But it's not okay for them to just ignore me. All they had to do was call me and tell me that my order was canceled. But they didn't. I had to call them four weeks after my order was placed only to find out that I actually didn't have an order with them anymore.
Well, I'm certainly not going to let their incompetence get me down. I went to the post office Wednesday and overnighted my new order directly to Vital Statistics of Florida.
Sometimes you just have to keep your head down, stay focused, and not let external circumstances keep you from staying the course!
We're making progress. We're making progress!!!
Posted by Mark at December 6, 2003 12:08 AMBeware of Vitalchek's phone order system. I used this to supposedly save time and EXPEDITE my order quicker as advertised by Vitalchek. I gave them all requested info, faxed in my id confirmation, but however I did not call order status to check to see if order had been processed that day.
I called four days later to check on status of my order and was told that the info, or most of it was not received. I was told I was MAILED a request form though they had my phone number and email address. I too find this company's level of communication very poor indeed, So beware folks of this company and by all means confirm your order that day or the next if you use the phone method or website method.
I had trouble with that company too. The one guy had the never to ask why did I need 4 copies of my birth certificate. He because my new best friend and I called almost daily until I got them.
Posted by: becca at March 14, 2004 08:10 AMI was glad to find out that I was not the only one who has had problems with VitalChek.
I ordered a birth certificate for my son back in November, 2003. to be sent directly to him, as this was sort of an emergency. The expected delivery date was in mid December. December, January, February come and go with no birth certificate. I sent an email requesting an update. What I received was a generic response on how processing times change depending on workload. I send another email a few weeks later and then receive a response that the order has been cancelled because the address mailed to has to be the same as the credit card billing address. This is all well and good, however there is no mention of crediting my money, only that the order was cancelled.
I have sent 2 inquires about " Has my credit card be credited" since the beginning of March - still no answer. I called them today -4/22/04 - and was told that the order had just been cancelled and that my card has "just been credited". Five and a half months for nothing. I am now going to order the certificate straight from the Dept. of Health and save myself $5.50 and some aggravation. I've learned my lesson.

Posted by: dan aaronson at November 19, 2004 11:18 AMVITALCHEK.COM is not the company you are having problems with it is VITALCHECK.COM. I should know I work for a Recorder's Office and issue Birth, Death and Marriage Certificates.
