I have absolutely, unequivocally, undeniably, positively decided that I most definitely do not like Walmart. I prefer Target! Walmart is dirty, messy, crowded, & unfriendly. Target is cleaner & friendlier. At least this is my experience.
This evening Omi and I went shopping. We needed to buy a lot of things for our trip to China and also some stuff for the baby when we return. So we started out at Walmart. We spent $150. Then, we went right next door to Target and spent $170.
Here's a list of some of the things we bought...
Two-Piece PJ's
Fleece Blanket
Formula Dispenser
Hip Hammock Child Carrier
Baby Nail Care Set
Stacking Cups
Sippy Cups
Baby Bottles
Burp Cloths
Slip-on Shirts
Sheet Saver
Socks
Pants
Shirts
Infant Spoons - Disposable
Johnson's Take-Along Pack (lotion, shampoo, powder, etc...)
More Johnson's Baby Wash
Aveeno Wash & Shampoo
Nasal Aspirator
Baby Orajel
Benadryl
Glycerin Suppositories
Little Noses Saline Spray/Drops
Infants Mylicon
Vicks Thermometer
And much more but I'm tired of typing these in....
Which do you prefer? Walmart or Target? I know that the majority of the people out there probably prefer Walmart. I guess I just don't understand why... :-)
Posted by Mark at December 28, 2004 11:38 PMI actually prefer Target. But Wal-Mart does have a bit more selection. Target is much cleaner by far.
Cindy in NH
adopting from China as well :)
I like Target better too. Wal-mart is dirty, you are right. My Target has a better baby section than my Wal-mart does.
Very exciting that you are buying stuff for the trip. Come on Travel Approval!
Posted by: Michele at December 29, 2004 10:28 AMI prefer Target too -- never could figure out why people seem to like Walmart better.
SO exciting that you're getting ready for The Trip!!!
Posted by: Jenn at December 29, 2004 10:58 AMTARGET! TARGET! TARGET! Especially Super Target (I highly suggest the one off Capital). I am too too excited about your trip and your baby girl! She is gorgeous!

Posted by: AUntie Franie at December 31, 2004 12:49 PMTarget by far. I agree that target's aisles are wider and cleaner, and it's just a more pleasant experience.
I heard a story recently on NPR that Walmart's goal is to get you and your money parted as quickly and efficiently as possible, where Target's is to get you to stay a while and find more items you might "need". They design their stores that way.
Target also doesn't lock workers in overnight (that I'm aware of), and isn't driving out small town businesses everywhere.
Posted by: Deanna at December 31, 2004 01:48 PMTARGET!!! I watched a PBS special all about why Walmart Sucks! The biggest issue for me as a Public Health Nurse and a tax paying citizen is that Walmart does not give their employees health insurance until you have been there 6 months full time, or 2 years part time....therefore taxpayers subsidize Walmart employees Medical assistance!!! There were many, many other factors that make Walmart a bad choice for any thoughtful consumer.
Posted by: Tracy Leigh at January 4, 2005 11:33 PMWal Mart. Only because when you are raising children, they have a wider selection and better prices. (I'm talking everyday stuff like diapers and all the other things that go on or in an infant. However, Target has a much better selection of CUTE/CUTE/CUTE little girl clothes. And (hint-hint) also have toys from leading toy manufacturers which are better than the for Walmart only selections (which don't hold up as well. This would be a great time to also check out Kids R Us (not the same as Babies R Us, though owned by the same company). They have a very good selection of little girl clothes (trust me on this, I spend most clothes money for toddlers here, particularly when they go on sale).
But Walmart has the best deals on diapers/formula and health aides. Did you know that you can even by formula by the cases there, and save even more money? Yeah, Walmart can be a pain, might want to work that time into a schedule when it won't be as crowded.
Another hint: Target stocks during the night, so the best shopping selections are done early. At least the Targets out here, during non-holiday periods get their bulk of deliveries twice a week. Walmart puts theirs out whenever bodies are available and not busy covering other areas.
