Kaylee is Crawling!

Kaylee is beginning to crawl. Does this mean we have to baby-proof the house? :-)

Any tips or suggestions?

Congratulations! Now the fun begins!!!

Yes you will have to baby proof the house:-) I suggest kiddie locks on cupboards you don't want her to get into. If you have stairs, I suggest getting a little gate to stop her getting down the stairs or up. I had a friend that put a little gate at the bottom of the stairs so her babies/toddlers couldn't go up. I thought that was a great idea. We had a make shift barrier between the dinning room and kitchen. I didn't want the kids in there.

You'll be surprised at how much she will be getting into. Now she's mobile there's so many things to explore :-)

Have Fun!!!

Oh, boy! Yep...babyproof...FAST! One of the other things you have to watch for is hanging cords...if she doesn't TEETHE on them, she could get tangled in them while crawling, or pull the item over on herself. She will also try to crawl into impossible spaces.

Also, you need to be vigilant about plastic bags! If you store anything under beds, or down low in plastic bags, she COULD crawl into one and suffocate! It takes NO time at all for this to happen, and if you can't FIND them right away (because they are under a bed or bureau, out of sight in the bag) the results can be tragic! I actually know someone whose nephew did this and died! :(

I recommend you block stairs, but ALSO you can begin to teach her the safe way to crawl up and down them! Turn around at head of stairs, feet first, down on belly, one stair at a time. I taught this to Shao as SOON as I got her home...knew as a single parent with bum knees and a weak back that I had better teach her ASAP, so that we could limit the need to carry her, and that I could carry OTHER things and limit the daily trips on the stairs.

Of course, elec. plugs, etc. And if you keep anything dangerous in your purse/briefcase/backpack, those need to be kept UP. Babies have been know to swallow camera batteries, watch batteries, change...all kinds of lovely things!!!!

Here's to keeping Kailee girl safe and happy!

Hugs from Nancy & ShaoXi (who survived babyhood and is almost nine now!)

We were fortunate in that Eliana never made attempts to get into cabinets, etc. We did put covers over the outlets but that was all.
