The Meltdown
- January 28th, 2005

This evening, around 6:00pm, Kaylee had her first meltdown. And boy can she scream. Yikes! We were giving her a bath and everything was going fine. Then suddenly, as if she was stung by a bee, she opened up that little mouth of hers and just wailed. It lasted for about an hour. We tried everything. Nothing worked. Finally, she cried herself to sleep. But she only slept for about 30 minutes and then she woke up again. This time she drank about a half of a bottle and that calmed her down. She went to sleep. Then she woke up again around 11:00pm. Naomi and I were still up packing. Kaylee started crying again but another bottle calmed her down. She stayed up with us for another hour and a half. Naomi just got in bed and I just put Kaylee down.

We spent all evening packing up the place. And we are still not done. We sort of moved in to this hotel room. We have to have our bags outside of our room by 10:30 in the morning. We leave around noon. And our flight takes off at 2:30.

Naomi is still sick. Bad. It's been really tough on her because she wants to be involved. She wants to take care of Kaylee (and she is). She wanted to get out and see Changsha. It's Kaylee's home town and Naomi was hoping to be able to do some shopping and buy a few things for Kaylee. But unfortunately we weren't able to. Hopefully when we get to Guangzhou, Naomi will feel up to doing a little shopping. But we will have to wait and see. She is still feeling bad.

Other than the meltdown, Kaylee has been doing GREAT! She is making a lot of progress. Today she sat up by herself for 20 to 30 seconds. That is a huge improvement. She say's ba ba ba ba... a lot. And we found out that ba ba means father. :-)

We are looking forward to getting to Guangzhou. We will miss Daphne and Ellen, but we won't miss the cold, damp, weather. And we were getting really bored at this hotel. It's just time for a little change. In Guangzhou we will stay at a hotel called the White Swan. It is famous for people from the US adopting from China because almost every family stays there. The US Consulate is in Guangzhou and so everyone has to stay in town for a few days and the White Swan is the hotel that most families stay at. The White Swan has a children's room with toys. And there is a famous couch that all of the adoption groups put there babies on for a group picture. I will email everyone our group picture when we take it.

I better go. It's late. My girls are sleeping. And I know Naomi will be up in a few hours finishing her packing bright and early.
