Last Night in China
- February 1st, 2005
Tonight
is our last night in China. Tomorrow evening at 6:30 we fly
to Hong Kong. From Hong Kong we fly to San Francisco. From
San Francisco we fly to Charlotte. From Charlotte we fly to
Raleigh. My sister is picking us up at the airport in Raleigh.
It sure will be nice to be home...
This
has been an incredible journey. I still walk around and find
myself amazed that we are in China. And then I look at little
Kaylee and I just can't believe that I'm a dad. And I can't
believe that she is our daughter. It's almost too much for
me to get my mind around.
Kaylee
has made a lot of progress. She can sit up for a little while
but eventually tumbles over. She loves it when we hold her
up and let her feet stand on the ground. I think the idea
of walking really excites her. If we lay her on her stomach,
she can roll over. And she is beginning to use her hands a
little more. She is still not gripping anything other than
my finger from time to time. But occasionally she will scratch
things that make a sound with her finger and she tries to
grab things but she hasn't quite figured out the whole thumb
thing yet.
Naomi
is feeling better. I have to say that Naomi has just stepped
into the mother role like she has been doing it all her life.
She is just awesome. And little Kaylee just loves her mom.
I love to see the two of them together.
Tomorrow
morning we go to the US Consulate for an oath. That will be
the final step. We check out of the hotel around 2:00. And
our flight leaves at 6:30.
We
are ready to come home.

BTW,
if you go to the Adoption Blog and click on October 2003 under
the Archives in the right margin, you will see the very first
post I made. Here is what it says...

First
Post!
Well,
this is the first post for the Adoption Blog. I'm still working
on the site a little, but at least I can begin to document
our progress as we move forward in our quest to adopt a baby
girl from China.
I
will use this site to keep our family and friends updated
on our progress. And to perhaps even assist those that might
be thinking about adopting or those that are going through
the journey themselves.
For
us the journey has just begun...

It's
been an incredible journey....
