Kaylee is Home
- February 5th, 2005

Boy, lemon pound cake sure hits the spot at four o'clock in the morning. If Kaylee gets a feeding, doesn't daddy get one too?

Naomi had the early shift yesterday, so I got up early today. My day started around 3:30am. We are still trying to get Kaylee's (and ours) time schedule adjusted.

We got home around ten in the morning on Thursday. Yesterday was a blur. I took at least 3 naps throughout the day. And each time I would wake up it felt like I had lead boots on. My legs just felt so heavy. I could wake up from a nap, and want to go right back to sleep again.

Yesterday Kaylee was cranky. She cried a lot. It was the most difficult day that we have had with her. But we are very thankful that she waited until after all of the traveling to become cranky. And we know that she is just trying to adjust.

This morning she has been just a little bundle of fun! She loves to entertain her daddy. I was up in the office checking the computer so I made a little play area for her with blanket and pillow. But the minute I put her down she started complaining. I'd pick her up and put her on my lap as I sat at the computer and she was as happy as can be. I think she and I are going to get along just fine. Anyone who is happy sitting in front of a computer is okay with me!

My sister, Ginny, picked us up from the airport on Thursday and so Kaylee got to meet her Auntie Gin. She was all smiles. Kaylee that
is. Well, Auntie Gin too. Ginny had stopped by the house the day before and dropped off some macaroni & cheese, sloppy joes, and lemon pound cake. The sloppy joes are gone. I think there is a small serving of mac & cheese left. And I am guarding the last slice of pound cake. :-) It sure was nice to have a few meals already prepared for us.

In fact, it appears as though we are going to get several more meals prepared for us this coming week. We are part of a small group ministry at our church called Hope-Adoptions. Leslie-Jean & Dan host it the second Sunday of every month. Leslie-Jean and Dan have two wonderful little girls from China. While we were in China, Leslie-Jean organized to have meals delivered to us this week. Several people in the Hope-Adoption group will be bringing us meals. Isn't that incredible? What a wonderful, generous, and kind thing to do for us. Now that we are home and we are finding the adjustment to be so much more difficult than we had anticipated, the meals are a huge help. Thank you to Leslie-Jean and the Hope-Adoption group!

When we arrived in town Thursday and pulled up to our house, there were balloons tied to our front porch. It was an awesome surprise. Bern & Camalita had stopped by that morning and left them for us. About this time last year Camalita was in the hospital delivery triplets. So Eric, Luke, & Stephanie are just over a year old and we look forward to Kaylee having them as playmates.

We have discovered a few things about Kaylee. One, she loves to look at herself in the mirror. She just loves to see herself. She laughs, and smiles, and sticks her tongue out. She gets those little legs kicking and arms waving and just has a blast! She also enjoys the TV. Oh no... Haha. We plan to be very careful about TV time. But right now is sure does help out. A coworker of mine gave us a gift for Kaylee. It is a 4 DVD set of Baby Einstein (Disney) that includes Baby Neptune (discovering water), Baby Beethoven (symphony of fun), Baby Galileo (discovering the sky), & Numbers Nursery. Kaylee just loves them. When ever she sees a baby on the TV she gets really excited. I'm sure this has something to do with the fact that her first 9 months were spent sharing a room with several dozen other babies. Right now, Kaylee is sitting in her swing right next to me watching Baby Neptune as I type this on my laptop.

I guess this is going to be the last of the email updates. I just wanted to wrap things up and let everyone know that we are home. Our trip to China was a journey of a lifetime. And little girl Kaylee has already changed our lives. I will continue to post messages on the adoption blog so please check it from time to time to see new pictures of Kaylee and to read updates about her. I'd like to say thanks for all of the email responses. We really enjoyed reading them. And thanks for sharing the experience with us.

Naomi would like to say a few words...
-------------------------------------

Ni hao Everyone,

I wanted to say, "Xie xie" to all you guys for your wonderful encouraging emails and awesome prayers. With me becoming so sick this trip it really helped to know that we had so many people praying for us. As for now, Kaylee and I are doing much better...which is total praises to God! We both still have some sinus issues, jet lag, and Kaylee is a bit constipated; but we are so thankful for God's wonderful promises and healing. We are also thankful that Mark did not get sick at all! God is so awesome!

Mark is such an awesome Daddy! He is sooo cute with Kaylee, and he takes awesome care of her. He does everything....changing poopy diapers, measures out her formula and cereal, makes and washes bottles, feeds her, gets up in the middle of the night with her....I could go on and on. {:-) Kaylee also, loves to snuggle and sleep with her Daddy. They are so cute together!

Also, many thanks to everyone for providing meals for us this week and for grocery shopping for us. We so appreciate it! I don't think either of us realized how much we needed the help during our recovery time with this jet lag and getting use to taking care of another person in the house full time.

Well, I'd better run, Mark just went down for hopefully a good long morning nap and Kaylee has realized that no one is talking to her. I think she's starting to understand how to get our attention...oh no...but I like to think positive that this is a good thing cause she
is starting to trust us.

Please take good care of yourselves, and can't wait to talk to each of you on the phone or in person. May God richly bless you guys and your families.

Me ke aloha pumehana,
Naomi
